My left leg is atrophying. Unfortunately it's hard to find standards in American Italian cars these days.

Are you talking about Fiats? They have standards... they're just very low.

Had a Fiat 500 rental car with the 900 cc, two-pot turbo. Enormous fun, would only do 5000 rpm, but I stayed there all the time. Sounded like a motorcycle and had all sorts of funny noises on the over run. Pedal to the metal, let up, repeat, and again, and again, and again.
Couldn't wipe the smile of my face when I arrived at the hotel, was grinning like an idiot. (I know, I know.)

The final-year Allante (1993) with 300hp Northstar V8 was quite a car.

Just about to order a new Skoda Superb with a DSG box. I (that'll be SWMBO) will decide on the colour today. Seems like "Jungle Green" is the chart topper at the moment.
I got my wish on the engine though.

They disappeared surprisingly quickly. We were in (at the time still) Czechoslovakia back in August 1988, and I didn't see any Rapides over a month's vacation.

I have actually been checking the internet these last days, and I have found a few 130 R/Rs for sale. With the 79.786,287625 USD price tag on the Superb, :o  :? I'm not totally convinced that wifey is prepared to shell out another 11.806,639026 USD on a new toy for me.
Going to Croatia for two weeks and the 30th, you never know.

It seems the Garde/Rapide series had the same problem in their home country that the Niva had in the Soviet Union. In an environment where buying a new car was often literally a once-in-a-lifetime experience, they just weren't very practical, especially since they were more expensive than similarly powered sedans.
