Calling 3WE.....

Postby Dummy Pilot » Wed Aug 29, 2012 6:32 am

See if you can spot the irregularity on this Air Uganda takeoff.

(would you have broken your finger trying to repeatedly push the Flight Attendant call button?)

Flaps? We don't need no stinking flaps for taxi!

You rang?

In my experience, flaps are set "basically immediately" as the plane begins to move forward after pushback.

Based on the information in the video, I would say that things look awfully normal, other than the tug having pushed them all the way to takeoff position.

By the way, great find!

My guess would be that the words "Takeoff warning-Checked" were never spoken during taxi.

I would have broken the Flight Attendant.........................'s head on the cockpit door. I would off course have used a male one, or the least good looking one.

Since watching Ice Pilots NWT some, There have been some shots of the flaps on the Douglas C-47's.

They sure do look similar...

I would have rushed to the cockpit screaming unintelligible words with my strange accent.

Stayed the bleep away from anything with the words "Air Uganda" on it. Hope that helps.

Okey, that's the smart move, of course.
But just for the sake of the "what if", what if you found yourself in that situation as a passenger, regardless of the airline?
Remember that this has happened twice in the MD-80 and they were not third world airlines. Spanair in Barajas. Was it Northwest out of Detroit? A couple of accidents with american carriers in the 727. There was also the LAPA's 737 case out of Buenos Aires, but with LAPA your first advise would apply.

To be honest, I know what I would want to do but I don't know if I would dare to.

???

You lose traction from the nose wheel and temporarily have F'd up steering ability and you make a lurch towards the grass in a zillion dollar plane full of people.

You work in a the epitome of "safety first" culture...

Do you abort the takeoff, and evaluate what just happened...HELL NO- power up, let's go!

There's no memory checlist item, the black and white thinking says go...never mind if somethings afoot with the steering and at 50 kts it makes another hard left and sends you accross the grass and bumpy turn offs...

no hay problemo!

Of course, after you straighten it out, if you have a normal thump thump thump from the nose tires, you keep going!!!
you still have to find a crew willing to fly this "barely airworthy" heap
no such thing as "barely airworthy" it's either Airworthy or Not
100% incorrect Ever hear of Ferry Permit? issued for Non airworthy aircraft
LOL

Dude, that's a huge oversimplification. There are a large number of different, and highly interactive factors that come into play as to when you would and would not skid and would or would not be guided off the runway.

Let's just hope Gabriel doesn't notice and elaborate...
