Here's a twist: the article mentions "wood splinters" in the cabin... a lot of it looks like fiberglass (insulation) to me, but there is something that looks an awful lot like a mangled wood propeller blade. But Wikipedia says the Jetstream 41 has metal propellers (as you'd expect on a plane of that type and age)?

Concur, don’t think that’s a propellor.

I am; however, shocked at the apparent use of bio-carbon composite material in the J-41.

According to people in the Herald comments who claim to know what they are talking about, it seems that there is an STC for "natural composite" propellers that have a wooden core and an FGRP shell which save quite a bit of weight compared to the standard metal propellers that come with the Jetstream and are not so pricy like the foam core / carbon composite shell alternative.

Sounds good, but I'm not sure saving weight by having the blades depart the hub in flight is the best approach. :mrgreen:

That doesn't save weight, it just shifts weight from the engine to the cabin and from the bowels to the underwear.
