F1 2009 thread
I couldn't see one anywhere , surprised me as I think we still have a few F1 fans here.
Will the appeal against Brawn's Diffuser be upheld - personally I doubt it. I thought Vettel's 10 place fine in the next race was a bit harsh. On the UK TV at least - Branson got his bucks worth in advertising from this weekend alone , no wonder he was grinning so much.

Re: F1 2009 thread
Not much help being a fan if you can't watch the races. F1 has sold the TV rights for Norway to, I think Viasat and they only show on Viasat Motor and/or Viasat Sport. I'm f*** all interested in fotball/tennis/badminton/darts/pool/baskeball/gymastics/figure skating/cricket/swimming/.....................or any other dull, boring "sport" you would like to mention. I am therefore not prepared to plunk down extra cash just for the pleasure of watching F1. I'll go skiing meself instead. Planning on renting Randonne skis, walk to the mountain's top and ski back down.
That'll beat watching F1 from the couch.

Re: F1 2009 thread
Just heard the am that MTL might get a fall race if Dubai isn't completed their track.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ~ WOW, what a ride~!!!
Re: F1 2009 thread
You mean the'll get two races ? Or is the Canadian GP not part of the regular series anymore ?Just heard the am that MTL might get a fall race if Dubai isn't completed their track.
@Sully: Thanks for mentioning Vettel. I was afraid that I was biased on that one but from what I could see und judge I don't think he has to take the full blame for this accident. Yes, he understeered towards the middle of the track but OTOH at the corner entry he was still ahead and Kubica still tried to get around him on the outside not leaving an inch of space for Vettel. I mean, that was also quite an optimistic stunt. I've seen so many scenes like that which were considered a "racing incident", so I'm really wondering about this harsh punishment.
Vettel agreed that should not have tried in the first place to keep his position since Kubica was lapping so much faster but that's a different story. BTW, to me Kubica should have been a little bit more patient, he would have passed him 2-3 corners later anyway.

Has mismanagement damaged any other professional sport as much as it has f1? The new championship award rules and budget limits on teams to "make an even playing field" will make the sport the laughing stock of motor races.

Would be nice to see Montreal back on the circuit.
One of the best tracks, best fans, a North American date -- just not enough blood money to pay that idiot Ecklstone.
Where was Mclaren and Ferarri yesterday?
Glad to see slicks back.

Per, as you said, they're just look-alike... but they're quite different if you look under the cheap composite stuff

The only thing that excites me is the large amount of SQ Cargo B744Fs we had in Melbourne yesterday to pick up the F1 equipment, otherwise it gets a MEH from me.

Just a question:
Who is selling those stupid wings or things that go on the front (cannot call them spoilers)?
They will get rich this year!

Since each team has their own ideas on how to apply and attach the aerodynamic devices, I am fairly certain that the teams make the stuff themselves, it will cost them a bundle.Just a question:

Otherwise I am more or less in the same situation as Per, only channel broadcasting is 3 Puls, and since we only have an ordinary roof antenna there are little chance of that getting into the house. Might look into the new DVB-T signals, but that will also cost me a new box for reception and a subscription. <edit>hmmm, that is available in November, a fat lot that helps me watching F1 this year</edit>

Re: F1 2009 thread
Watched the race on SportN last night. Would not have done it normally as not much fun when you already know the result, but since the rules has been changed and all that decided to give it a go. Not bad, not bad at all. The cars looked that some Yank-tank-shite with those small rear wings, but racing was OK so obviously the new rules was a change for the better. Looking forward to the drivers getting used to the new cars and to explore the opportunities for overtaking. I think racing will be even more exiting on the "real" racetracks. We'll "see" after the fact.Since each team has their own ideas on how to apply and attach the aerodynamic devices, I am fairly certain that the teams make the stuff themselves, it will cost them a bundle.Just a question:

Re: F1 2009 thread
Can someone - in a nutshell - explain me the differences between 2008 and 2009 rules.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Publicly, we say one thing... Actually, we do another.
Re: F1 2009 thread
The Sweet Monkey River tractor team takes a different view of the F1 race....the view that it is pretty flamboyant. You saw Ricky Bobby's F1 competition, didn't you? That just about sums it up. Str. Maartens and green vans = F1
Now, if you want real racing, you will go down to the Sweet Monkey River tractor melee and corn boil with a cooler of Lone Star, a couple packs of smokes, and at least one 6-shooter (not some pansy semi-auto clip jammer either) - crack open a few cool ones, scrape the corn off and eat the cobs, blast your 6-shooters into the air, get on a tractor and ride. A tractor like this:
...and the only endorsement sticker you need on this baby is:
Of course, that would involve actually getting up and away from your keyboard...

Re: F1 2009 thread
Smaller standardized rear wings, driver adjustable front wings, slicks. Also some thingie that will generate extra (electrical? kinetic?) power which can be utilized approx 6 seconds per round, 80 extra horses mentioned. Not every team use them yet. I bet it was more, but I didn't pay attention and can't be arsed to Google it.Can someone - in a nutshell - explain me the differences between 2008 and 2009 rules.

Re: F1 2009 thread
Called "KERS". Braking energy is converted into electrical power stored in a battery, which can be used to boost the power by about 80 bhp for max. 6 seconds straight. Depends on the track characteristics how fast this is being recharged. So, technically a F1 car is now a "hybrid". Proved to be useful for some of them to keep a competitor behind on the straights who would have been able to pass otherwise. Adds extra weight however. The weight itself isn't the problem itself but it reduces the amount of weights that can be used for balancing the car. So, not everybody is using it yet. Also some thingie that will generate extra (electrical? kinetic?) power which can be utilized approx 6 seconds per round, 80 extra horses mentioned. I heard one team uses a spinning flywheel to store that energy...

What about Satellite antenna? We get at our position with a 45 cm dish with a 4 single LNB headOtherwise I am more or less in the same situation as Per, only channel broadcasting is 3 Puls, and since we only have an ordinary roof antenna there are little chance of that getting into the house. around 2800 programms. Half of them are crypted. But a lot of them are free. Among them are a lot where you can have F1 for free. And as you understand German (I guess) the RTL Television is the contract tv station for German language.
Here is a footprint of Astra 19,2 E where most interesting tv-channels can be found:

A simple dish and receiver will not cost even 100€ and there are no fees after to pay. At least in Luxembourg.
