Rode to RDU today on WN. Severe VMC, winds not particularly unusual.
As we crossed the airport fence the ground sure seemed to be coming up fast...and it seemed scary...finally, a “last second” pull up and a tad of power but still a very firm planting and maybe even a brief return to flight.
I didn’t think much of it until a coworker said his flight (a different one) also ended a little ugly with the flight crew saying “the ILS messed up”.
I didn’t feel a wind shear (not that I’m capable), but would ask you to share relevant insight to this “near total air disaster”. I note that 7000 feet is a little short compared to a lot of other runways, but a lot longer than Branson, downtown airport.

I'm pretty sure in VMC at an airport with PAPIs on all the runways except the kiddie one, you don't get to blame the ILS for a bad landing.
Re the length of the runway, it kinda depends on the airplane (weather too but I'm assuming there was no snow/ice)! But unless you were in an A380 it was probably adequate.

I don't think I've ever actually landed on 5R. All my airlines have parked on the West side, so it's either been 5L or 23R.

It is 150 ft wide, has all the typical piano keys, a few other markings and a a dashed stripe down the middle.I don't think I've ever actually landed on 5R. All my airlines have parked on the West side, so it's either been 5L or 23R.
There was also a harsh lateral adjustment after the nose wheel was down. Probably just a goofy wind shift...

I was just being snide that I don’t see anything special about it (obstructions/turn offs) that would favor a little ‘dive’ to enable a short landing...

If memory serves, there is a little bit of an uphill going on at the beginning of that runway, similar to 33L at BWI, It's enough to screw up your visual picture, especially if you're not expecting it.

Thank you.***enough to screw up your visual picture***
Just for posterity, no one did died on either aeroplanie, so only minimal admonishment to your industry.
