7/2024 CRJ Crash- Stall from wrong v-speeds, there

Postby 3WE » Sat Sep 07, 2024 3:15 am

Hard to stomach…I know 172s aren’t type specific to CRJs, but if the stall warning is sounding, make a measured nose down input.

My question there (Shouldn’t they have been able to power out of it?) was a bit genuine.

One subtlety that Evan won’t see- I think they did lower the nose, a strong sink developed (mentioned by Nav) AND THEN WE SEE A FINAL DESPERATE PULL UP/WING DROP.

Still, Gabieeee did a little punch over and didn’t stall Bobieeees simulator.

The airplane aggressively banked left and right a few times before the final 90+deg bank.

As I said infinite times before, the most dangerous part of the stall is not the stall itself but the strong degradation of lateral-directional handling qualities to the point of making the plane incontrollable. When was the last time that you saw a "pure" straight-forward stall crash?

All that to say, yes, most likely the plane had enough power available (but maybe not set) to power out of it even with the stickshaker shaking. But that doesn't help when you are banked past 90 degrees.

First reduce AoA (to no more than the stickshaker onset AoA), then take care of anything and everything else.

All that said (again) the report says that the stick shaker came on and off several times. Perhaps they were trying to do exactly that?

Let's wait for the final report.

Yes…except ideally it’s not SEVERAL times…I think it’s better to screw procedures (Vcalculated for specific type AND specific takeoff and blessed by the Pope) and instead fly at a higher (cowboy airmanship improvised) speed that doesn’t give stick shakers and wing wallows.
