An amazing thing...

Aviators sit in the shade of their weatherbeaten, fabric-covered biplanes, exchange hangar talk and tell stories of their barnstorming days before they take to the air again and fly toward the setting sun ....

A place that actually encourages use of their parking lot for planespotting! https://aviationmuseumofnh.org/hours-an ... -watching/

Of course it's an aviation museum that's on airport property so I guess it's not that surprising. 8-)

The coolest thing is I found it on Google maps, while following a rail trail that originates in my town. It's a 25-mile ride though, not exactly next door.

The part of the National Air and Space Museum that's at Dulles has an observation deck, of all things.

Flyover has a hotel, that should probably be banned, because it’s a tall building close to landing aeroplanies.

When Not_Karlie was very little, AEP had an observation deck. He loved watching and HEARING those magnificent, MUSICAL BAC 1-11s, 727s, 737-200, DC-9s, MD-8xs and several turboproppies and smaller aeroplanies. Its closing made Not_Karlie and Not_Daddy very, VERY sad  .
At least until some 15 years ago the old parking lot, next to the closed observation deck but at ground level, was open for all and fencepervs gathered there to share Nairing knowledge and compare their telephallic lenses. Don't know if that is still possible, I should check one day. In any case and despite the relatively recent runway extension and the less recent construction of the new, multistory parking lot next to the terminal, its proximity to the fence still permits a great view of aeroplanies from the sidewalk near both ends of the runway.
There was also a pedestrian bridge offering a magnificent view of the whole runway, but it was demolished some 15-20 years ago  , I ASS-ume due to safety concerns (it was very near one of the ends of the runway).

Replace Not_karlie with Gabito and all still applies. By the way, the terrace parking lot in Costa Salguero is a good spot too, especially when landing on 31.
