Not_a flight report:

Postby 3WE » Thu Nov 20, 2025 8:48 pm

Instead an Aeroplanie Museum report, where the airplanes are on the ground, not_did dieding people and not_making smoking holes.

Today, 3BS visited the Arkansas Air and Military Museum.

It was good because it had aeroplanies.

I figured I would make a daily post of the highlights and lowlights in order to entertain my fellow forumites.

C-130

Postby 3WE » Fri Nov 21, 2025 11:22 am

The highlight for stupid enthusiasts (not_us) is a C-130.

Don’t get me wrong, it is a highlight, and I got to set foot in it.

One of the bigger downers is you can not_enter nor see in the cockpit  . Perhaps it’s too narrow and slightly dangerous passageway?

Even more exciting, you could go inside the plane and see one of the tanks where they keep the PSIs!

C-130 Highlight

Postby 3WE » Sun Nov 23, 2025 11:16 am

I have long believed that Gabe, his friends, and Boeing executives have been ruining aeroplanies with engineering “improvements”

So, in addition to seeing the nifty PSI tank, the 70-year old design shows us that the lavs were indeed less cramped:

A flying banana.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasecki_H-21

It was an amazing, rickety aluminum soda can.

In the rear, a PSI machine appeared to power it:

And a drive shaft ran up to the front rotor:

Footnote: Quite an upslope of the floor.

Also disturbing, was a myriad of control cables. I blame Gabriel.

Did anyone zoom in on the display cabinet?

It has an Evan procedures manual.

I support procedure manuals, but find the title of this one interesting:

I’m trying to imagine what’s inside:

Pull up relentlessly?

Flaps down, landing gear up?

Good engine: Off?

Minimums, runway not_in sight, continue?

Grab belongings from overhead bin, jump down slide?

It should start with the basics. To achieve an accident, press yoke forward and houses get larger, pull it back and ground disappears (for a while).

Obligatory “flight” report:

Postby 3WE » Tue Dec 02, 2025 8:32 am

They had a PC flight simulator.

The control setup seemed pretty slick- possibly an approved-training rig.

I did not_know the software, but it gave me an external view of an A-10 and an amazing rendition of Northwest Arkansas. I did a sloppy, big, sightseeing pattern with much variation in power.

I landed it, so there!

Apparently they had a collection of VHS tapes and DVDs and were house cleaning and giving them away.

I grabbed these three. I was very excited. Sadly, the DVD was not_about Genius Airmanship, but it did feature Richard Collins.

F.A.O.: Flyboy: I will try to view these soon and then send them to you, so you can know how to do your job better.

And the coolest thing of all:

Postby 3WE » Thu Dec 04, 2025 10:25 am

Introduction (not the actual cool part):

A wind tunnel.

It had a wing…

You could control the AOA…

It had a scale to measure lift…

It had a system to generate smoke lines…

Ironingly, I don’t think it had enough AOA adjustment to stall.

-The smoke lines seemed stable over the wing

-There was no evidence of buffet or lift reduction on the scale

Whomever built the thing, it might have been cool to have a second scale to measure drag.

Ok, enough Gabrilian keystrokes. The wind tunnel was cool because…
