Described there as a "1967 MCDONNELL DOUGLAS DC-9-15F", but "airworthiness date" is in 1977 so not sure what's up with that. Either way, it's quite the old aeroplanie so it certainly will be crashing any minute now.

Also interesting to note the "engine type" is listed as "turbo-jet" - apparently its bypass ratio isn't enough to rate being called a "turbo-fan"? I thought technically an engine with any bypass (except maybe bleeds) was considered a turbofan.

Question: does anyone know if that model (and its derivatives) having one more row of seats on one side of the centerline than the other had any effect on its design? I know the extra row of seats is pretty close to the centerline, but it's not *on* the centerline, so I wonder if the offset weight made it always want to bank to the right...

A few years ago, I got on a Delta plane (think it was an MD-90 with the turboFANS) and the 2-3 seating was REVERSED.

It would be funny to know if there was major aero-engineer debate on this ‘radical’ design change.

And don’t forget a number of ERJs and turboprops wit 1-2 seating. It’s my understanding that this unbalanced loading is trivial compared to aileron/trim authority. The control surfaces do have a big leverage advantage.

As Evanie says, we must know our type-specific procedures, AND we need oversight, screening, regulations and fired executives.

For your comfort; however, most DC-9s have been grounded and scrapped.

I was working out in the yard and heard an unusually loud jet flying past the house. Looked up and was a tad surprised to see *3* jets going by! They were too far away for me to see them really well but it appeared to be an airliner-type craft plus two fighters, flying in a triangle formation with the small planes trailing. It's interesting to note that on FR24 only one plane appears.

Interesting conundrum...

It's 9/11/2001 + 20 years and one day, so you MIGHT have fighters escorting a commercial plane that has been taken over by terrorists...

OR is it just a flyover for the football game?

Perhaps, we should have left the tanker out of this...It's not THAT exciting nor LOUD. Would people have been more relaxed with three fighters in-formation?

I ass-ume there were notification efforts, but so many people don't get the message any more.

The University of Flyover is near some air force base and they often manage to bet a B-2 flyover...very cool to see. Also, it's a smaller city surrounded by lots of rural areas, AND it's not really a prime target.

Maybe we should limit it to blimps?

One night a KC-135 was practicing ILS approaches at flyover International (why there and not their base at Scott AFB?, not sure). People were complaining about the noise. I think it was night and maybe even decent IMC for folks weren't seeing the aeroplanie- not exactly the same as in Bahstan, but these military guys. Also, folks occasionally complain about F15/18 traffic- for some reason Flyover Corporate has landed a lucrative fuel contract instead of Flyover International.

Back to the OP: You can’t put anything over on them, when a livery is involved.

I might invest 10 min of time to track this awesome 1960s relic.
