Concur. There are better ways to lighten an aircraft. Simply carrying less payload is the quickest way. Structurally, you can work things down to minimum margins of safety wherever possible. The damage created by torching a hole in the side of the airplane negates any benefits from the resulting weight reduction.That's the worst damage from lightening I've ever seen.
