I liked the part where the plane had a hole in it.

Giles would prefer if you referred to it as a gash.

That's the worst damage from lightening I've ever seen.

Concur. There are better ways to lighten an aircraft. Simply carrying less payload is the quickest way. Structurally, you can work things down to minimum margins of safety wherever possible. The damage created by torching a hole in the side of the airplane negates any benefits from the resulting weight reduction.

Is there a back story?
Yes. And it has nothing to do with lightning. Or lightening.

Looks like a short in CB Panel #1 (behind the Captain seat) caused a fire. Good thing it happened on the ground.

I didn't know that regional jets came equipped with Citizen's Band radios. Is one required to use a hand crank to retract the landing gear?

That should be more like "10-4 GOOD buddy" to make it more authentic....hehehe
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ~ WOW, what a ride~!!!

100% incorrect Ever hear of Ferry Permit? issued for Non airworthy aircraft
