Allegiant Air Inflt Fire Warning

Postby Dummy Pilot » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:12 pm

Basically an inflight Fire Warning on the Righthand engine......emergency divert.....evac on the runway....everyone safe with just a few scratches. Yay Team!!! Really can't ask for more given the hectic situation.

However, if I put on my nit-pickers hat and play the age old Message Board game of Second Guessing, there's something that bothers me about the photo and I might do it a little different in Recurrent next week. Anyone care to opine?

Is it just me that finds it odd that the aft door was opened after a suspected engine fire in a rear-engined aircraft?

I`m guessing that you won`t allow evacuation on the same side as the engine indicating fire?

Cheers,
You look like I need a drink

Like Sabre, I'd think it would be better NOT to use the rear exit if an engine fire is suspected...

Yup, that's what stuck out to me. If they're worried enough about the possibility of a real fire that they decided to evacuate on the runway, I don't think I would have used the Aft tailcone slide. It's up to the Captain to make those briefing instructions clear to the F/As on which exits to use and even if it's unplanned, in his Evac PA he can say "Forward exits only" or "Left Exits only" etc.

Again, everyone was safe and sound and Lord knows they were busy with the divert. Perhaps that was low on their priority list. Perhaps an overzealous F/A opened it or maybe even a passenger saw an aft abin door and bolted for it (if the door is armed, the tailcone will eject and the slide will inflate when the door is opened). I suppose someone on the Rescue crew might have even popped the door well afterwards.....for that matter, I don't see the slides at L1 and L2 doors so the photo may be well after the fact and not a good representation of which doors were used.

Sorry, you can't just start out as a full fledged Dummy. You have to put in your time and get your Quals and Ratings like everyone else. I'm willing to start you out near the bottom....congratulations, you are officially a Blithering Idiot. Keep up the hard work and you'll soon be a Complete Moron

I understand, but what a bummer. I thought I'd rate something special, but there are already plenty of Blithering Idiots and Complete Morons here.
