A German talking about human rights and fair treatment of foreigners. I never thought I would see the day.
Classy.
Oh, sorry, yes, they were not foreigners. They were Arab-Americans.
Patronisingly classy.
Darth: Luke, I know what you are getting for Christmas.
Luke: Noooo! That's impossible.
Darth: I felt your presents.

US citizens that profess the Muslim religion is not the same than Arab-Americans (double nationality).

There are Muslim Arabs, Christian Arabs, Atheist Arabs and even Jew Arabs. Replace "Arabs" with "Americans" and it holds true.

The problem with them is not that they were Arabs, it's not even that they were Muslims. It's that they "looked" Muslims.

By the way, the Muslim terrorists, like the ones from 9/11, don't look like the stereotype of the observant Muslim and fly in group seating one next to the other talking about blowing planes in the open.

Also, only a minority of Muslims are Arabs. We don't even know that these people were Arab, only that they were Muslim.

Amazing conversation.

No argument that the suspicions were wrong.

No argument that it sucked that their trip was messed up- I feel sorry for them.

No argument that them wearing traditional Middle-Eastern Muslim attire, predjudices, and history had a part in thier bad experience that day.

But instead of discussing whether "the system" acted appropriately or if it could be improved, most of the comments here are people trying to bust or out do each other in being politically incorrect/correct and enlightened.

So, some adult* told some agent that some folks in traditional Muslim/Middle Eastern attire split up and were talking about "something happening", and then there's this aviation core value of "better safe than sorry".

It's sad that it happened, but I don't think that AirTran or the TSA were out of line.

*(So what if it started with kids, that little nuance can quickly get lost as the message travels from agent to agent and they deal with an imminent departure, wondering if a plane load of blood will be on thier hands if they don't act- even though they know that the odds of these folks really being terrorists is extremely slim)
